Dear friends that love animals and Chauncy:
With deepest regret I want to inform you that Chauncy went from “home to heaven” today at about 11:30 AM where he will be forever a puppy, perhaps playing Frisbee with my Dad, and no longer associated with his pain and suffering. He told me it was time. . . 6 Squamous Cell Carcinoma tumors, mostly in his lower jaw and 1 in his sinus and then 1 very aggressive fibroid carcinoma tumor in his lower jaw on his left side that blinded 1 eye and caused severe swelling in his cheek. He was nearly totally blind, totally deaf, and had severe rheumatoid arthritis in his back and legs. I could tell he was suffering and definitely did not want that. His quality of life was extremely compromised.
He has been undergoing chemotherapy for several months, pain pills, and antibiotics following 2 surgeries. We got pretty good with sign language, he has always been very smart.
I loved him so much, he was so totally there for me, faithful, loyal and loving. I know most of you have been thru this but I have never experienced such a close relationship with an animal so it is very difficult.
David and I buried him here at home and Tommy had prepared the burial site with a labor of love and Marion Pike and Tommy engraved a Colorado white marble headstone with a heart and his name that is awesome. Home to heaven provided a small white casket.
Dr. Kathy Cooney with www.hometoheaven.net who attended was incredibly compassionate and helpful. He knew no pain no more as he entered Sheltie heaven with his usual pride and dignity. David and I did it privately with just the 3 of us and the Dr. He was our “only child”. It was very hard but I don’t know how it could’ve gone better overall.
I do not expect your response but I appreciate your caring about Chauncy and your understanding and love. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Lewis, Dr. Troy Suto, and Chauncy’s groomer, Susie Andelt. I would highly recommend any of the above named people for the best possible care they gave Chauncy. Special thanks to Marion and Tommy for the beautiful headstone.
I care about you!
